Medication Options
Understanding the potential benefits and side effects of mental health medications can help you make informed decisions with your healthcare provider.

Therapy Approaches
Different people respond differently to the same medications. By meeting with our providers ideally more than once, they can better tailor a treatment plan specifically for you and your tolerance levels and improvement. The same is true with different therapy methods. If you are advised to see a psychologist, the choice of therapy depends on your needs and response. Although sometimes psychotherapy alone is beneficial, often times a combination of psychotherapy and medical management is needed to reach symptom improvement. Both may be crucial to improve your overall mental health.

Self-Care Strategies
Incorporating self-care practices into your daily routine can significantly improve your mental well-being and resilience to stress. This can include exercise, meditation, engaging in activities you enjoy doing and surrounding yourself with people you love.

Support Networks
Connection with others who understand your experiences can provide validation, encouragement, and practical advice for your mental health journey.
Common Questions About Mental Health
How do I know if I need professional help?
Consider seeking help if your emotions, thoughts, or behaviors are causing significant distress, affecting your daily functioning, or if you're having thoughts of harming yourself or others.
What's the difference between a psychiatrist and psychologist?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose and treat mental health conditions with prescribed medication. Psychologists typically provide therapy and psychological testing, but cannot prescribe medications in most states.
Will my insurance cover mental health treatment?
TDOC is a cash-only telehealth service where you meet with a medical provider, not a psychologist. We do not accept insurance. However, should the provider recommend you see a psychologist, many insurance plans cover mental health services, though coverage varies. Check with your insurance plan to ask about specific benefits, in-network psychologists, and any requirements for coverage. Alternatively, if you are referred to a psychologist, you can also ask them if they take your insurance. Depending on your insurance, you may not need a referral at all and you can seek your own therapist if you wish.
How long does the evaluation with the provider usually take?
Depending on your needs, the visit with our provider may take anywhere from 15-20 minutes. If the provider recommends psychotherapy, those sessions may take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the therapist and what you both determine is needed.
